Presentation of the Centre
Sahlgrenska University Hospital was founded in 1782 and is today one of the largest in Northern Europe with approximately 16 700 employees. Our oncology department dates back to 1943, when a royal donation enabled the construction of several dedicated clinics for cancer care in Sweden.
Today Sahlgrenska Comprehensive Cancer Centre acts as the regional cancer hub for Region Västra Götaland, serving 1,7 million inhabitants. We treat all forms of cancer, including paediatric and apart from our regional assignment, we also hold national responsibilities for treatment of several rare cancer diseases.
