The Clínic Barcelona Comprehensive Cancer Centre (C4) is a leading campus for cancer research, diagnosis, and treatment, integrating the clinical expertise of Hospital Clinic, the academic strength of the University of Barcelona, and the innovation of IDIBAPS. C4 combines advanced medical research with personalized therapies to improve outcomes and quality of life for patients with cancer.
Main Research Activities and Core Facilities
Research at C4 focuses on cancer treatment and understanding, with over 35 research groups at IDIBAPS working in key areas such as immunotherapy, cell therapies, prevention, hereditary cancer, and genomic-based diagnostics. C4 leads international collaborations and clinical trials that target various cancers, translating research findings into improved treatments, particularly in breast cancer, liver cancer, and haematological malignancies.
The centre publishes more than 400 original articles annually in leading scientific journals. Equipped with cutting-edge clinical and research facilities, including a clinical trials unit with over 500 active trials each year, C4 conducts pioneering translational research through specialized oncology units, molecular pathology labs, and imaging technologies.
Education
C4 also fosters education and innovation, working with the University of Barcelona to offer training programs in oncology and biomedical sciences, giving students hands-on experience in research and patient care with the latest cancer therapies.
