Presentation of the Centre
Karolinska CCC brings together cutting-edge expertise in research and cancer care. The centre is a joint initiative within Karolinska University Hospital and Karolinska Institutet. The centre has a significant role in the development of health care where new research findings and new treatment methods are continuously implemented to benefit the patients.
Main Research Activities
Research covers all fields from molecular mechanisms and DNA repair to multidisciplinary cancer research and clinical studies. Cancer Research KI is an overarching umbrella organisation and includes 250 research groups covering the entire spectrum from basic to clinical research, epidemiology, and care sciences The aims are to improve prevention strategies, develop better prognostication and therapy prediction to improve tailoring of therapies, development of new therapies aiming at decreased morbidity, better care, and decreased mortality.
Core Facilities
The centre offers a wide spectrum of research core facilities: Clinical trial Unit, Phase 1 and CTO, Center for Cell therapies, Proteomics, Genomics transcriptomics, , etc. SciLifeLab combines frontline technical expertise with advanced knowledge of translational medicine and molecular bioscience.
Education
There are 16 programs to train medical staff, at the undergraduate level the teaching in cancer is integrated in the general programs for professional training. Specialist training is provided in cancer-related disciplines and continuing professional development is also an important part. From the master level and onward oncology and cancer biology are specific topics for doctoral programs and courses.
