Presentation of the Centre
The Institut Curie is a foundation of public interest, which combines one of the largest European oncology research center and two state-of-the-art hospitals. Institut Curie, France’s leading cancer center, combines an internationally-renowned research center with a cutting-edge hospital group, which treats all types of cancer, including the rarest. Founded in 1909 by Marie Curie, Institute Curie employs 3,800 researchers, physicians, and health professionals across three sites (Paris, Saint-Cloud, and Orsay), all of whom contribute to its three missions of treatment, teaching, and research.
Main Research Activities
In the bylaws of the foundation known as Institut Curie, we propose the development of:
- Basic scientific, translational and clinical research in physics, chemistry, biology and radiobiology
- Diagnostics, follow-up and care given to patients within a hospital group belonging to the Unicancer federation
- Development of research and access to innovation, which requires ties with economic players in order to develop innovations and improve scientific knowledge
- Preservation and transfer of knowledge in the aforementioned areas, in particular through teaching and museology activities.
All above activities take place within three entities: a leading hospital group in oncology at three sites (Paris, Orsay, and Saint-Cloud), an internationally renowned research center with 1,200 researchers working in 86 research teams, and the foundation’s head office.
Education
For Institut Curie, teaching is a function that’s inseparable from research and treatment, and as such is fully part of the foundation's social missions. For the preservation of knowledge, Institute Curie is the keeper of the work conducted by the Curie and Joliot-Curie families, and has a duty to pass on the history of this work to a broad audience. Its contribution to the international influence of research and treatment, in particular in oncology
