Presentation of the Network
Nätverket mot cancer (NMC) is an umbrella organisation consisting of 12 national and two regional cancer profiled patient organisations, in total approximately 40,000 individual members. NMC is based in Stockholm.
The Council has been nominated by the member societies and the General Assembly of Delegates vote for the Council members. The Council consists of patients and persons with experience of cancer in their families and relatives, “next-of-kin”.
The vision for NMC is “a society without cancer”. NMC works for implementing EU Beating Cancer Plan in Sweden: cancer prevention/screening, care, innovation, research, rehabilitation, palliative care and the best possible quality of life from investigation to palliative care. We are members of the Government´s Patient Council, governmental expert committees for CCI, ECHoS, Digital Infrastructure, EU Beating Cancer Plan and a Swedish National Cancer Strategy.
We arrange World Cancer Day and produce a Cancer Report every year to document our work for better research and care. We are involved in research projects, health care development and collaborate with professionals, care givers and researchers. We are partners in Vision Zero Cancer and Testbed Sweden Precision Health Cancer. We Co-lead EU-CIP (ECPDC) WP7 citizens and community and are members of the Advisory Board of EU-AMB@R, digital rehabilitation and of the Strategic Committee of Sahlgrenska University Hospital.
We work with our member societies for screening, vaccination, early detection, precision medicine and precision health, the best possible quality of life from investigation to palliative care and with patient advocacy training. Board members have experience from cancer treatment, a life after or with cancer. Most Council members have university and management backgrounds.
